Undergraduate students

When you arrive you may find that university is not what you expected in all sorts of ways, or that you are not sure how to work, or how to achieve the grades you want. Your wellbeing may be suffering because of the workload and more learning online. You may be about to start uni and want the reassurance of a personal academic coach to support you.  Or you may be part-way through your degree and want some bespoke support to help you to achieve more, make the most of your experience, or to help you with a particular challenge. You may need to develop your confidence, or want to know how to push yourself more.  Personal Academic Coaching can offer you individualised support from experienced academic coaches that your tutors are not able to provide.

International students – undergraduate and postgraduate

Coming to study in the UK is a big decision, and it is vital that your experience is the best it can be for the investment you are making in your future.  But learning in the UK may be very different from how you were educated at home.  Personal Academic Coaching can give you the individual support you need with an experienced academic coach to help you navigate the UK university environment, make new friends, and achieve all you are capable of.  While your tutors will support you with your modules, they  do not have the resources to give you all the support you may need or want.  A Personal Academic Coach is focused only on you, your situation, and your personal challenges.  They will provide you with support, motivation and enable your performance to develop so that you get everything you are capable of from being here.

Parents of international students at university in the UK

You may wish to invest in bespoke Personal Academic Coaching for your child at university in the UK to be sure that they are receiving individual support, and academic challenge, during their studies. There are bound to be challenges when young people find themselves in a different country and a different educational system. Your child is here in the UK for  many different reasons. Sometimes you as parents want them to be here more than they do. For others, coming to study in the UK is a hard-won dream. A Personal Academic Coach can support your child during their university education in the UK in a way that a university tutor can’t. Your child will receive from us bespoke, focused coaching that supports academic performance, motivation, and wellbeing, to help your child to make the most of this wonderful opportunity.

Personal Academic Coaching is focused on students achieving their full potential, as people as well as students. If your child would benefit from improved confidence, socialising, being pushed to achieve more, or finding their own motivation to study, Personal Academic Coaching can offer tailored support from experienced academic coaches.

Students on doctoral programmes

A doctorate is a very significant undertaking, and takes a very long time in what is often quite a lonely work environment as you become one of the world’s leading experts on your topic of study.  We know from research that postgraduate research students struggle with work-life balance, staying on track, and wellbeing more than any other student group. A doctorate is a significant investment of time, money, and your own identity as you sacrifice many other things to devote yourself to your research.  And if you are an international student you may have other challenges to manage, sometimes bringing your family, including children, to the UK to enable you to complete your studies.

You will face all sorts of challenges as you embark on this exciting journey to becoming a doctor. Imposter syndrome can also affect you as you find yourself working with, or even challenging, highly-respected academics in your field. A Personal Academic Coach can support you to achieve your best, stay well by managing work-life balance, and navigate the doctoral study process.  Dr Melanie Pope (Associate Professor) works exclusively with doctoral students.  She has supervised doctoral students from across the world to successful outcomes, and is currently a doctoral supervisor. She is also a certified coach and a Member of the Associate for Coaching.
